About Lawendy Willis
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and am passionate about supporting individuals and families across the lifespan, from expecting mothers (perinatal) to older adulthood. My professional journey includes owning my own practice, working as a middle and high school counselor, and serving as an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant for the State of Alabama. These experiences have deepened my understanding of how early life experiences impact long-term mental health and well-being. During my time as a school counselor, I became increasingly concerned about the mental health challenges children were experiencing at younger ages. This inspired me to earn a Graduate Certificate in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health, where I gained specialized knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their lasting impact. I am also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and my work focuses on helping children and families heal from trauma, strengthening relationships, and developing healthier patterns of coping and connections. I strongly believe in the power of healthy relationships and supportive connections. To me, family is not only defined by blood or legal ties but also by meaningful, long-term relationships—what many call chosen family. These connections can foster resilience, promote healing, and empower individuals to navigate life's challenges with confidence. At Family 1st Counseling, LLC, I am committed to empowering individuals and families one session at a time by fostering connections, resilience, growth, and healing.
Therapy is collaborative, trauma-informed, and relationship-centered — integrating TF-CBT and culturally responsive care for children, families, and adults across the lifespan. Insurance accepted: Aetna, Anthem BCBS, Cigna, and Optum (UnitedHealthcare, Oscar, Oxford). If your insurance is not listed or you prefer self-pay, please contact Mrs. Willis for further information.
